What happened in Iowa?
On August 10th, 2020 Iowa was hit with an inland hurricane known as a "Derecho". Over 70,000 homes lost power, and it's estimated that over 10 million crops were destroyed. Due to the Pandemic and it being an election year, this catastrophic event hasn't been given much attention by the media. Without media attention, the affected area has been slow to receive support in this trying time. Thousands of homes have been destroyed, and many families are having difficulty getting basic necessities such as food and water. Also due to the current Pandemic state, many organizations are unwilling to send relief teams and volunteers to the area, for fear of increasing exposure risk. Military officials have compared the impact of this Derecho to hurricane Katrina in 2005.
100% of the proceeds from our online shop will be donated to organizations working directly with the people in the affected area and bringing relief. Follow us on social media to track your/our impact @healtheheartland!
